Website Developer(s)

posted on 20/2/2003

We have just had a large (approx 70 page) international e-commerce website constructed for us on our behalf. We are now looking for a Website Developer capable of both maintaining the day-to-day operation of the website and also of adding in new "features" on a regular basis. The website is initially involved with the provision of effective communication between two parties, who may be in different parts of the world. Subsequently, code will be also be required in order to offer data storage and data management tools to our users.

The successful applicant will need to possess excellent programming skills, be familiar with website design software tools (and be able to undertake some basic graphic design) and have a good solid understanding of e-commerce website administration. The successful applicant will be able to work unsupervised, prepare accurate quotations, deliver good quality work (well structured, well commented code), stick to agreed timescales and be happy to comply with the principles of software quality assurance.

This is an ideal opportunity for a programmer to "show-off" their programming skills to the world. Our plan is for this website to be viewed by an extremely large audience and to be presented "to the global media". We are a caring company and are more than willing to offer a great deal of support and encouragement to the right person to work with us to achieve our objectives.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with experience in as many as possible of the following tools:.

Administration: Understanding of Windows 2000; including security, DNS, and IIS 5 (Internet Information Services). Administration and backup of Microsoft SQL Server 2000

Development: Skilled in: Front End Active Server Pages 3 (ASP)

Graphic Design: (Macromedia MX, Photoshop etc ) and HTML & Layout Layers. JavaScript

Backend:Visual Basic 6 and object oriented techniques. The ActiveX Data Object (ADO), and Collaborative Data Objects (CDO) components.Creation and maintenance of SQL Server tables, views and stored procedures. Full text Indexing, and programming in T-SQL.and ideally a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer, although this is not essential.

The position will be fairly ad-hoc in the early stages and will become more regular dependent on progress made. Full-time/part-time employment is not envisaged at this stage but it could be a possibility for the correct incumbent. The work will be based in the Godalming area, although tele-working is a possibility.

We are also prepared to create two jobs to cover this position if necessary. The first being that of a Website Developer who would focus on the day-to-day management of the website - including some graphic design (perhaps a more junior programmer) and the second being that of an "ocean-going" programmer who is more interested in working on discreet software projects (perhaps a more senior programmer/project manager).

In the first instance please, forward your CV, examples of your work and suitable references, along with details of your rates of pay and your availability. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
