Would You Like To Help Change The World?

posted on 16/3/2004

We are launching a campaign to gather together some of the best talent on the Internet in an effort to launch a website which allows employees to contact and help each other. Why? Well, because we think it’s time that such a website existed on the Internet. (Note: when we say employees we mean, full-time, part-time, self-employed, unemployed, retired and disabled employees.)

The basic idea behind the website is to provide a forum where employees from all over the world can (in total confidence) ask other employees in other companies how to do things. This could be the solution to a problem which, say, another employee has already solved. It could be to ask for information on how to learn how to do something or how to get trained up in something or find out the best way to go about learning how to do something. It could be information relating to finding a new job. If a solution to a problem can’t be found, the website also allows employees to ask around the website community to see if anyone knows anyone else (outside of the website community) who may be able to provide assistance. This approach usually resolves most issues.

Why would employees want to help other employees? Well, so that they can build up their own kudos which is displayed on the website as “points and testimonials” – in a similar way to Ebay. This means that that when they themselves need to seek help from others within the community, others will be glad to provide assistance. Further, employees who develop lots of contacts are far more confident at work and often enjoy work much more, than those who are restricted solely to communicating internally.

Won’t employers be against this? Well the answer is no, they are usually all in favour of having employees who are quickly able to come up with solutions to problems and resolutions to issues in record time. Employers are always interested in communicating with other employers who have already solved the problems they are wrestling with. Employees who have large personal contact networks usually turn in an excellent performance for their employers.

Another question we are often asked is: Why don’t people just use Google or newsgroups to get information to solve their problems? The simple answer is that web pages don’t talk. You can’t have an intelligent discussion with a web page but you can with another human being.

Although there will be a huge amount of free information on the website, we think that it is “right and proper” that if a member of the community has valuable “hard-earned” knowledge that they are allowed to charge others for this information. Hence, members will be able to make money using this website – if they wish.

In order to get this project “fully off the ground” we need some help. We are an exciting, embryonic, UK-based company which is looking to develop relationships with:

Website programmers
Website designers
Website testers
Website technical authors (to write online help etc)
Marketing managers
Webmasters
Experienced web users and anyone else who would like to get involved in the construction of a world class e-commerce website.

The idea is that you would work with us - now and again (more often if you can!) in your spare time on the website in the hope that we can fairly swiftly move it up into the eBay, Amazon league and all share in the spoils.

The website already has members in twenty countries and has achieved a Google rating of 6/10 – which is a good start. The website already comprises well over 100 pages and it already has built-in chat and messaging capability. This allows employees from all over the world to send messages and chat to each other about solutions to work-related problems.

So what’s in it for you? Well, we are not yet in a position to pay but what we are able to offer is the chance to gain experience at the cutting edge of something brand new and something which will change the lives of millions of people for the better.

Once you have completed some work for us, we will allow you to put the name of our website on your CV and we will also provide you with a reference – if you wish. Plus, when jobs and paid contract opportunities become available, your name will be at the top of the list of applicants.

We have already had an good response to our campaign and as a result, this offer is only open to applicants for the next 14 days. We will review the position after that time.

We are very interested in making contact with highly skilled and experienced people from all over the world, who have an excellent command of the English language and good references. Our website code is structured such that it can be reached by anyone, anywhere in the world who has the relevant passwords. Only those with who are enthusiastic, reliable, hardworking, honest, easy-going, trustworthy and honest need apply.

To “apply for this project”, simply send us your CV and write to us, outlining the reasons why you would like to get involved in a project such as this. We will then review your application and if successful, we will send you (brief) joining instructions and details of the website. We will then take matters on from there. We look forward to hearing from you.

We are no longer accepting applications for this project.
