Linux Admin
posted on 21/5/2004Looking for remote Linux Admin to do regular setup and maintenance work on our customers' servers via SSH.
Please bid on the following 4 jobs, these are all live servers so there must be no unplanned downtime.
Please indicate the cost of each job separately.
*** Customer A
Linux Red hat server with an ADSL Internet connection with a fixed IP plus 2 Windows NT 4 servers on the same LAN.
Currently remote Windows users connect via ISDN dial up to MS remote access server running on the Windows NT terminal Server.
Remote users access MS networking shares on the 2 windows server and samba shares on the Linux server; they also use Terminal server client on their Winodws PCs to run terminal services sessions on the Windows terminal server.
SSH is set up and working on the Linux server, the Linux box acts as the firewall/router for the LAN.
MS Exchange mail server is running on the Windows server and users on the LAN plus users through remote access send and receive mail through it - it was there before we added the linux server.
What we want done is:
the ISDN lines are no longer used
Remote users connect through the Internet to a vpn server running on the Linux server
You will intruct us on how to set up vpn client on the Remote Windows 2000 PCs, initailly we will set up one of our PCs to test it
There are 5 or 6 remote PCs, it would be unusual to have more than 4 connected at the same time.
*** Customer B
Single server Mandrake Linux
Recently installed running Mandrake 10
Has ADSL with fixed IP, SSH is running.
Needs VPN for remote Windows laptop users, need to do Windows briefcase synchronise while out of the office.
Different users need different access settings to Samba shares running on the same box.
Needs software disk mirroring set up - has 2 x 120 GB IDE disks, no raid card, system currently runs on 1 Disk only.
Needs SCSI DAT tape backup setting up.
Server also runs Shorewall firewall and Squid, need Iptables/squid set up for transparent proxy.
No mail server required
Need help with FTP setup so that different users have access to different areas of server (also available via Samba), some private user areas, plus some shared areas for different project groups.
*** Customer C
Linux Mandrake 9.1 server with an ADSL Internet connection with a fixed IP.
Runs Iptables, Squid, Samba, FTP.
Need Iptables/Squid to work in transparent proxy, user has to enter user name and password in web browser to access web each time.
Also install Dansguardian or similar for Web content filtering with blacklists, ad blocking..
Some software to report on individual users web activity.
Needs VPN installing for remote Windows users.
FTP needs changing so that admin can change users access to folders, some private folders, some shared group folders.
*** Customer D
Shared hosting server in a hosting centre with a fixed IP, with multiple domain names and web sites hosted on it.
Runs Ensim control panel 3.1.11-2, Apache, PHP, MySQL, Sendmail.
Mail server needs to have added virus filtering and SpamAssassin.
Don't mind if we need to change to a different Control panel and Mail server.
We are no longer accepting applications for this project.
