Ive solved it now but thanks for the advice. It was a firewall issue and I
needed to exclude certain local addresses from going through my proxy
server.

Is the server running? You should see an icon in the systray. Try
right-clicking and selecting Start Services. Also sometimes the machine
needs a cold boot to start things up again.
