Here are some of the benefits of using ADSL...

with adsl you can have an always-on connection, such as that provided by a
leased line, gives you a completely different view on the world to a
conventional modem dial-up link. You don't have to wait while the modem
dials your internet service provider, negotiates a connection speed, and
then authenticates you to the provider's access server. What's even better
is that you don't suffer the frustrations of going over the public telephone
network - congested lines, engaged tones, ringouts, modems that answer but
won't authenticate, and other reliability issues. Even ISDN - which does
offer much faster connect times than modems - can suffer from many of these
other problems.

Existing modem technologies aren't going to improve any further in terms of
speed - technologists have squeezed as much as is possible out of the
conventional telephone line. ADSL offers a connection that can be several
times faster, increasing to tens of times faster, and can outperform
existing ISDN connections.

ADSL uses your existing analogue telephone line, yet without disrupting
ordinary telephone communication. You can thus keep your current line and
number, and even make telephone calls or faxes while the internet connection
is in use.
Because ADSL uses the cable that's already in place, you don't need to face
the disruption that would result from running additional cable or fibre
optic.

for business, ADSL is competitively priced, but direct comparisons are
difficult. Dial-up services can be quite competitive, as call charges drop.
Leased line prices are also coming down, and, depending on the exact ADSL
package that you compare them with, can be as competitively priced. But best
of all, any always-on connection encourages an entirely new attitude to the
internet - without having to worry about mounting call charges, you're not
afraid to experiment with new ways of exploiting the internet and obtaining
real business advantage.
