This will sound a bit mental but I have in the past had problems where sites
involving certain HTML configuration on certain browsers will goble up PC resources.
This effect was ussually commutative, i.e. the longer you browsed the more resources
gobbled, to the point where the machine would ussually crash out the browser/PC.
I discovered this when I once wrote a CGI calendar that could crash a machine with
three hits. Only closing the browser would release the resources.
Use the system monitor on a PC (Don't know in a Mac) to see if such an effect is
occurring.
