RE: FN-FORUM Search Engine Question

date posted 4th January 2001 17:21

Alternatively, try forming a partnership with the leading search engine
submissions company in Europe, Netbooster. There is a partnership meeting
soon in London on January 17th I think it is. Their website is at
www.netbooster.co.uk. Their are others out there but this one took my eye
over the rest.

There has been a lot of talk about such companies not worth any money to put
towards because companies are not seeing any returns on their investment.
This is purely subjective and can only be remedied by actually being able to
speak to anybody who has had dealings with such search engine submission
companies.

The question is whether you can afford to spend time submitting all your
clients sites to all these search engines EVERY MONTH. Especially if you
want to be able to provide your clients with a reputable service that will
be remembered and cherished. If this is the case then seriously consider
what benefits these sort of companies can offer you.

If you send an e-mail to this netbooster lot about the forthcoming meet they
will send you a huge attachment file (word document) about their background
and their sales document for the meeting. If you live near London it may be
worth going to - it's free. Oh, and if your outlook program or whatever
times out because of this huge file - then goto www.emailanywhere.com. Here
just type in the e-mail account it was sent to and the password and you will
be able to download the documents in a matter of seconds.

Whether it will have any serious benefits to you (or to us for that matter)
is another question - but there is no harm in finding out. I am not a
salesman for the company by the way and I have have as yet to form any sort
of relationship/partnership with this company. Other thoughts on this would
be welcomed.

Subject: RE: FN-FORUM Search Engine Question

Here's another strategy:

Think like a searcher.

If you're looking for a holiday cottage on a search engine what would
you type?
Has your site got all those keywords listed, and included on the pages?

Do a search to find any holiday cottage, get your site listed on any of
the lists of cottages pages that turn up.

A quick look at your site shows your keywords to be mostly phrases with
many repetititions of the same word, this can get you excluded from some
search engines. Try selecting the single words from each of your phrases
and listing them only once make sure you include all the words you might
use if you wanted to rent a cottage.

My site (a web design site) hasn't the faintest chance of getting near
the top of a list when the search is web design, but try searching for
"straightforward web design" on Altavista!

BTW it can take three months to get added to a search directory, the
more you submit to the more likely you will succeed - be consistent with
your submissions and follow the instructions you get to the letter - if
it says don't resubmit DON'T!

Good luck

hth

Tony
