Fonts

Hi all, just wondering.....say i have 300 free fonts downloaded to my
system, i would normally place them directly into fonts in the windows
folder.

Is there a better way or another way of storing the fonts with easy access
from programs such photoshop?

I'm finding opening my fonts within something like word etc is getting
really slooooow.
