Cheapest ADSL option I found and have chosen was via Homechoice.

£20 a month for 115k access (which they claim they are going to upgrade to
500k).

They advertised £80 installation (unlesss you take their video on demand
service at the same timne (which I have done at home independently - great
fun gadget!!)).

They actually charged £40 installation.

They primarily supply a video on demand (VoD) service using ADSL and as they
have al the technology and servers, they offer £20 a month plan to add on a
data service. They don't really market to an internet-only market, but you
can choose that option instead.

They install ADSL in the price, lend you an Alcatel ADSL modem (which is
handy, because one of the other makes used often has been playing up I
heard). You do have to put up with their VoD box as well as they use it to
segment the data feed (allowing you use of 125k data segmented off a 2MB
video feed). It is segmented so that if you are using it for data at the
same time as someone is using the TV/video on demand service you can't get
one interfering with the other by hogging too much data space.

The modem is about the size of a typical modem, the Homechoice box is the
size of a thin Digital TV decoder. The irony is that they put all this
stuff in and the net effect is to have up to 2MB available that is cut down
to 125k for internet, then down to 115k by virtue of their Serial Port. I
am sure if you were really cunning you could work around this and increase
the capacity back up by getting around the box (though I am no techie so I
may be talking out of my a*se). The reason for the extra boxes etc is they
developed it all for the States and are just implementing it lock-stock and
barrel and I think they have been surprised by the number of people wanting
to use them as primary internet providers.

£40 installation (took 2 weeks from order for installation) + £20 a month
(min 12months) can't be sniffed at for unlimited internet access faster than
I have ever had and totally unblocking my phone line (so no need for an
extra line).
