RE: FN-FORUM Creative solutions required for client login area - HELP

date posted 19th April 2001 11:44

Thanks to everyone who contacted me. I found someone to do it now, so no
more mails please. I've replied to most people but if I missed anyone then
accept my apologies - and I promise to keep your details on file :o)

Subject: FN-FORUM Creative solutions required for client login area -
HELP

Anyone who can think of a creative solution for this client login area can
have the job (to be completed immediately)!

Basics: Client has a website, and wants to offer an area for clients to log
in and download .doc documents that are specific to them (I guess it would
be nice if they could change them, then upload them again all through a
browser - but that may be getting a little complex - unless anyone knows
otherwise :o)

The clients web site is currently running on an NT server, but they want the
client user area to be pulled from my Unix space (DSVR) into a frame (for
database connectivity and space issues).

So here's where I've got to. The client will use a login form (usual
username and password stuff). They will then see a screen with their
contact details (drawn from a database?) and a list of word documents that
can be downloaded (links perhaps drawn from same database?). These
documents will be different for each client, so it's probably best that they
are contained within different folders(?)

My client knows how to FTP documents into web folders, but I don't know how
they can link these documents to the client login page (and it would be nice
if the document uploading could somehow be performed through a browser).

So in summary:

1) an admin area where clients can be added, removed and contact details
amended

2) a login and password form for login

3) a user area that lists available documents for download (specific to each
client)

Please email me if you have a solution and can complete it within the next
few months (a costing would also be helpful).

Thanks

Paul
