RE: FN-FORUM MySQL database backup
date posted 9th July 2001 08:42
It all depends on the permissions you have been given on the server -
basically you can create a new database on the server via telnet if you
have been given correct access rights to the mysql/data directory on the
server - it is very unusual for hosts to grant those rights however as
they generally like to control whats going on - if yours does please let
me know - I'd love to have a host where I didn't have to wait for them
to set up a new database for me.
I'm not aware of a script or PHP script to create a database but its not
difficult - just hunt for create in the mysql documentation.
Hope this helps

Subject: Re: FN-FORUM MySQL database backup
Thank you for all the info you have sent me so far.
I though I'd push my luck for another answer:
Since I have telnet access would it be possible for me to create my own
MySQL databases via telnet command line (or anything similar)? I'm sure
that's a completely dumb question ???
I also have full CGI access on all directories. Perhaps a script that
can do this ?
Cobalt RAQ Servers running PHP 4. Perhaps a PHP script ?
As I mentioned before, I installed phpMyAdmin and can access and
manipulate existing databases.
I'm sure mu host will not like me to know this, but their 'database guy'
only works Mon - Fri ... lucky bastard.
Any help please.
Cheers
Willie
