Why designers use MACS?!I'm new, so I've missed most of this platform =
war, so sorry if I repeat something already said.
I always thought platform wars were started by non creative people, =
since I have worked on a Mac since 1991, when I started working in =
design. I wouldn't swap over to PC now just because the facilities =
always available on Mac are now available to the masses on PC. In 1994 I =
was forced to work on a PC using Corel Draw and Aldus Pagemaker for a =
couple of months. The problems with fonts and bureaus running out PC =
files to film for printing were just insurmountable. Also, filters run =
in Photoshop didn't work, since the PC had no floating point =
co-processor.
It's slightly different today, now that design is not limited to printed =
material, but is online as well. And the fact that the major programs =
are finally available on the PC to, AND that they PC can actually run =
them. To make sure there are no glitches, I just have a PC that I use to =
check any html done on the mac, to ensure that it still works just as =
well. Often the limitations on the PC (usually from CSS browser support, =
or the bad colour rendering) mean a few changes need to be made.
I wouldn't give up my Macs (I have 3) for the world. I'm not saying my =
PC is no good, but I sure as hell don't like it.
cheers,
