xml spy and xml notepad are useful david, and when its released visual
studio.net.
what exactly are you trying to do with the xml? since xml can be used in
every element of development from design to databases if you say which area
you working in i might know something in that department! :)
funny how 2 years back xml was regarded as glorified sgml, and now its the
core of almost every technology companies development plans!

this has tutorial, advice and links and is a very good place to start.
