As I've just joined the friends of the London Transport Museum (ahuh.... I
have always been interested in modern archaeology and how cities grew the
way they do and maps and such things) it is worth pointing out that using
the colours isn't a guaranteeable way of doing things. They change! The last
change was the Hammersmith & City line (ie. bit of Metropolitan) which was
purple but changed to pink. Then they changed East London Line (also a bit
of the Met) to Orange, but years ago all lines were different colours to the
ones they are now, and often changed colour every few years.

Oh well.
