RE: FN-FORUM Re: test please... windows...

I thought MPEG was pretty ubiquitous these days I even had it on my old P120
(not that it used to run that brilliant on 2mb of video memory). but it's
surprising how many people don't have MPEG codecs installed at all
particularly on slightly older systems like P200s running Win 95 which I
recently found out when I burnt a disk to give to a friend with a smaller
MPEG format copy of a movie we had been working on.
Generally though you can't guarantee with any video format that everyone
will have the necessary codec or plugin so if it's important and space
permitting it's best to offer a couple of alternative formats.
Still I can't understand why I couldn't view that QuickTime Movie though. I
don't usually have problems viewing QT movies on the Web even if they do
sometimes take a while to download. The only thing I can think of is that it
should have been embedded in a html page rather than given as a direct URL
or perhaps it was in an unsuitable QT codec bearing in mind QT like AVI can
use any of a variety of weird and wonderful compression codecs.
