Basic tables question

Too much beer this weekend is takig its toll already.

I've forgotten how you keep a table at the top of a column

i.e imaginea table 1 row by 2 columns
in column 1 I place another table and in column 2 I type loads of text.

When previewing the page the table inside column 1 stays in the middle and
not at the top.

Is there an easy way to stop this from happening?
