i wouldn't say new media is going down the khazi as such, more like
maturing.
with companies considering what they want with their net presence a lot of
new media businesses are going tits-up since they simply can't provide what
clients want - mainly the 'how will the site make me/save me money'? 2 of
the sites i worked on at my previous employers i *knew* wouldn't make
money - one was for warehouse stickers and the other a sodding hat shop -
but nonetheless enthusiam over The New Big Thing overrode all forms of
sense!
so yes there's redundancies (i was a victim myself), but it's making a far
better market where the days of every tom, dick and harry going to a web dev
company wanting an ecommerce site or a 5k, 10-page static site are numbered.
we can expect larger, more serious tenders to appear and now is a good time
to start to get established.
