I think first and foremost you need yourself a portfolio to show off what
you've done to potential clients, then you need to get in with the "crowd"
like local design houses, print companies etc etc anyone who can use your
services and skills, getting yourself known plays a big part on you getting
on-going work and promote yourself and dont ever stop. Local print houses
for example can do all the designing but dont have the knowledge or skills
to develop them into websites, you could for example do their web work for
them so your adding an extra dimension to their business and creating work
for yourself at the same time.
Get some nice, professional looking stationery like business cards and stick
them to places like Mcdonalds with chewing gum and stuff :-) *joke* I place
business cards almost everywhere i go, like cafe's etc, girlfriends back
before going on the raz etc, just stick them anywhere you can, even with the
customers who declined your services because you'll always get down the line
a friend of a friends auntie or something weird.
Work hard, promote to the death and then work some more and you'll be on
your way to establishing yourself as a freelancer!
BTW I did stick a card on the drive through of mcdonalds once with chewing
gum :-) i was waiting for the cleaning bill!
