well its dave, not herschel! :)
i wouldnt advise grabbing xml data using client-side scripting as you're
guaranteed to get a few people using browsers that dont deal with it (and
the types of end user you mention makes this quite probable). the coding
can also be something of a nightmare as to do anything more than something
simple you're having to create objects left, right and centre and keeping
track can be a serious hassle. it a bit of a pity as it allows you to
circumvent using cookies in a shopping cart, which is no bad thing.
i'd seriously advise having a quick view of flash/xml, i've only glanced at
it myself but it just removes so many compatability issues at a stroke and
it looks to me like it'll take less time to code than it would using
javascript.
