Re: FN-FORUM Really cheap hosting

Hi,
Jumping/ranting in!
I would only recommend portland for testing purposes only, heir free hosting
is down a good percentage of the time, and both me and a freind have had
very bad experiences with them.
Their support to say the least is less than professional!
Recently a freind went over his free bandwidth at 1pm on the 31st of
November, rather than just pulling his site for the rest of the day, they
demanded something like £15 for an extra 1Gb of bandwidth. and as his did
not pay, they closed down the site witout warning!
I also had loads of problems getting a domain transferred, and have never
had a single response from their tech support other than containing insults.
Also don't even consider their domain name registration, at I think £36 for
a .co.uk its a complete rip off!
That said, Its a great service for testing or learning PHP/MySQL! But not
for anything that needs to be indexed by search engines or is wanted long
term!
My personal favourite at the moment is oneandone.co.uk, its cheap ~£11 a
month for 300Mb and 10Gb with no ads! Plus you can host 'unlimited' domains
on one package and over the last 6 months its had very little downtime at
all! When needed the email support is grand, and quick, but the telephone is
one of the premium rate numbers which ain't so hot!
If you don't mind ads, it does one for 99p a month or £1.49 without, but not
sure if you can FTP to it or have to use their builder!
Cheers,
Chris.
