RE: FN-FORUM High speed, reliable Internet connection
date posted 7th January 2002 16:36
Hi Mark,
I've just been speaking to tele2. The company is about 3 years old and
they've been operating mainly up North till now. They rely on a system of
transmission masts similar to mobile telephones and expect to cover 65% of
the country within the next 6 months.
They work on a shared bandwidth system of 15:1 (as opposed to the usual
50:1 and 25:1).
Unfortunately, to be able to use their system there has to be a line of
site to their nearest transmission mast. To receive the transmission, you
have to have a small square shaped arial fixed to your outside wall.
It does seem quite promising though, with variable upload and downloads up
to 2 meg.
Contracts are for a minimum of 1 year.
