Depends how you mean...
You can format the cells to show the $ symbol.
Right click the cell(s) and select currency under the number tab.
You should see a symbol selection.

Hi I'm prettifying an excel spreadsheet for client and he has requested
that any instance of a £ sign is displayed as a $ - I've had a quick look in
the help files but as far as I can work out it is only possible to change
this by changing my windows settings! Is this correct?
