I wouldn't say avoided but unless you are careful and pay attention any PPC
systems will be expensive.
Its really a two way sting, broad terms are more expensive than carefully
chosen phrases (e.g. the top bid for "fitness" is 32pence per click but for
"fitness training" its 12pence, "fitness course" 7pence). Of course this is
merely to get potential customers to visit the first page of your site, you
still need to convert them into paying customers and the less broad the
initial term was the less likely they are to convert (so you could easily
have 12p visitors with a conversion rate of 5% and 32p customers with a
conversion rate of 1%).
Either way its a gamble (its not as bad as CPM branding but its still a
gamble). Personally I'd go and talk to an affiliate company and create an
affiliate deal based on x% of the retail price.
