Re: FN-FORUM flash intro

date posted 29th January 2002 21:22

Giles,

I'm with Rog on this one, I think Flash intro's, done in Flash with a little
added twist from Swish / SWfx are good, but to use Swish for an entire intro
makes it very hard to do something original.

Try not to use every effect available, variation is good, but you need to
get an overall feel and using loads of different fx can make it a disjointed
piece.

My advice would be to download the demo of Flash 5 from Macromedia and start
creating your own FX, there are loads of tutes / source files out there
(Flashkit.com, Ultrashock.com, Were-Here.com ... to name but a few) and
plenty of good books (http://www.amazon.co.uk/ + http://www.compman.co.uk/).

Don't worry about only being 16, I'm only 22, have no formal training in
design / art, I'm actually a trained sound engineer !!

John,
The whole idea of building a splash/intro page is to serve as a splash or
intro to the site, a 'preloader' however is built to occupy the user while
the site loads however you will find some people choose to use a preloader
as a site intro or build an intro as a preloader ;-)

Giles,
Good overall effort on the site, I agree with Tracey about the screen being
taken over, this effect has been used by many people as they has found out
how to do it and it is not very well accepted - most people will close the
screen straight away without reading any content - I usually do as I have
many other windows working at the same time.

You designed the Flash element of your site using Swish, nice little tool
(although I hate it - lol) although most people use the same in built
effects and this means that their intros always look like other sites.

Keep up the good work,

Rog.

I thought the whole idea of building a splash page/intro screen whateva you
want to call it was to pre-load all the images of the html/flash site!?? So
why do i have a loading bar on the next screen?

John
