RE: FN-FORUM Phone service

date posted 1st May 2002 17:57

I used a service a couple of years back that were appalling, but I can't
remember their name. They were a 'nationwide' type of company, but I
believe that they effectively utilised home workers ... calls were
diverted to the home of an 'operator' who then answered the call (in the
name of our company, but assumedly using CLI and checking a list!) - we
made test calls to them asking to speak to people, leave messages etc
and they never managed to get anything right!

I used to work for a company called Air Call many years ago who were
very good - don't if they're still going (based in Victoria, London.

I did check out a company a couple of years ago (as a possible
replacement for the really bad company), and I believe they were
http://www.answerlink.com/ - they had a pretty good set up and I got the
feeling the would provide a good service - however never got the chance
to try them out as our M.D. decided that his wife would be a 'better'
option and we had to divert all calls to his home after office hours ...
very impressive for a PLC company turning over some £7,000,000 a year!

Anyway, I would recommend that you ask to see the operation of whoever
you are considering - make sure they have their own operation and aren't
simply farming it out to homeworkers - in order for such a service to
operate efficiently they need to have a proper comms set-up that pops up
the name of your company on screen (based on the number that's been
called), along with all relevant information (key employees,
out-of=hours contacts, who to forward calls to, who to take messages
for, etc etc) - any decent operation should have the facility to patch
calls through to your mobile or land line as if they are actually simply
transferring the caller to an internal extension.

Hope this helps :-))

Kerry
