Well you do have to pay for the certificate I know but no other charges such
as transaction fees though I haven't looked at this barclays system you
mentioned.

The problem is to do this you will have to pay for a secure server
certificate, this will cost you the same as getting an EPDQ account with
Barclays for the year. With the Barclays account you at least get the
security of their servers and a pretty good anti fraud facility too.

I would be very wary of hosting a server with CC details on it these days.
You'll spend more on security than it is worth.
