Re: FN-FORUM Networking PCs & sharing peripherals

I would bite the bullet and get a cable router. I paid £75 for mine
(Linksys). It plugs into the hub and provides reasonable security and access
for all nodes on my network. BY are quite happy for you do to this (all
though they won't answer network support questions) and the newsgroups have
instructions for set up. It just works with no hassle at all, whether the PC
s are switched on or not. I had someone blast me with retina and nmap and
they couldn't do any damage (whereas when we tried the same with a Linux
"firewall"--not sure what it was or how it was set up, we got all the user
accounts and internal addresses with no effort at all)
