Padding doesn't work because the colour change on the rollovers is
created using css background colour on a:link hover and link and padding
puts a white edge on it. i've kept the colour of the table white so I
get the white line seperating each subject when 1px margin is used below.
It would work if there was another way i could get the white line
considering each subject is in a seperate cell and there is no room for
a graphic line.
