RE: FN-FORUM Networking PCs & sharing peripherals

You will need a small hub or switch, 4 network cards (one of which will be
PCMCIA or cardbus depending on your laptop), and a network cable for each of
them (not a crossover cable though). I would recommend 3-com for your
network cards & sub/switch, their office connect range is good value.
As for something to allow multiple PC's to be controlled by a single
mouse/keyboard it is called a KVM switch, Belkin do a 4 machine version
called "Omni cube" which costs about £80 plus cables (£15 each at pc joke).
If your laptop has PS2 inputs for both mouse & keyboard and also a monitor
connector for attaching a monitor then the KVM will also be able to act as a
switch for that too.

Subject: FN-FORUM Networking PCs & sharing peripherals
Hello people, I'd appreciate some advice here.
I have a Windows 98 desktop PC and a Windows 2000 notebook PC, currently
not networked.
For software testing purposes I need to install separate Windows ME and
Windows XP machines as well - desktops I suppose, since they're cheaper.
1. What exactly do I need to do to network all four together?
2. I've only got room for one keyboard and monitor on my desk, besides the
notebook. Is there a gizmo I can get which will let me connect 3 boxes to
the same keyboard and monitor, and switch between them?
Thanks
Nick
