Hi Andrew,
This is caused by win32 non-debug builds of PHP and has been fixed in later
versions. To correct from the script, use mysql_connect() rather than
mysql_pconnect() as it's a persistent data...

the variable $newfile contains the path to the uploaded file, not the actual
image.
use copy($newfile,$pathtoimagefile);
where $pathtoimagefile contains the absolute path to the file you want...

I believe but have not checked that in 4.2.1 with the default php.ini that
HTTP_POST_FILES is no longer set and that it should be something like $_POST
