Not my technical field this but I can ping Aramiska in 562ms round trip. I'm
assuming that aramiska.net is the server.
If anyone would like to tell me what to do I'll try to find time to run any
reasonable test on the system.
Stuart.

Hi Andy,
Not trying to 'rock the boat', but response time in this context is
nothing to do with bandwith (in a general sense) unless bandwidth is
swamped (and hence response time degredated as a knock-on effect).
With a satellite link the problem is that the packet has to go from
your dish to the orbitting satellite down to another point on the
planet and there's a latency (IE - time delay) associated with the
time that it takes to achieve this. That's not to say that bandwidth
is insufficient, but there is an initial 'delay' whilst the bits
travel the many miles to reach the other end.
I'm very interested in knowing what the ping time is between yourself
and your ISP.
The reason is that I'm thinking about (at some point in the future, if
I ever have the cash!) to live out in 'the sticks' somewhere and set
myself up with a decent link.
I was wondering whether it is feasible to host my own servers via a
Satellite link, or whether the initial 'pause' (in terms of the
end-user experience of waiting for the first bytes to be download from
their browser) would be acceptable.
Thanks in anticipation for your reply! :)
Cheers,
Richard.
