RE: FN-FORUM Data Protection Act

Hi Cameron,
I am in a similar position to you, the best advice I can give would be to
bite the bullet and read the act. It is extremely boring but no one appears
to be entirely clear on the act as it stands. You can contact the data
protection agency directly for an opinion (but this can take several
months). Also, the books that I have found regarding the act are for the
previous revision rather than the current one.

Subject: FN-FORUM Data Protection Act
Can anyone give me a recommendation for a book or some other kind of
step-by-step guide to what's required? I had a look at the official
website http://www.dataprotection.gov.uk but couldn't find anything that
seemed to help very much. And as for reading the act itself - I'd
rather not if I can avoid it.
I have a couple of sites that I'm working on that might need to register
(eg for opt-in mailing lists) and the clients and I are both keen to
stay on the right side of the law!!
Thanks in advance
Cameron
