Re: FN-FORUM STOCK EXCHANGE SITE BACKEND

Hi Andreas,
I have worked on enterprise-level projects in the US, primarily
concentrating on Rich Internet Applications (web applications with Flash
front-ends.) It sounds like your project might benefit from a Flash
front-end, powered by either a Coldfusion or J2EE back-end utilizing either
Oracle, or PostgreSQL (I would not recommend or develop using MySQL and PHP
for such a project, although they are excellent technologies for Content
Management Systems (CMS) and other systems where data integrity is not of
mission critical importance. (MySQL is not a true relational database as is
PostgreSQL, Oracle and it does not support transaction-level rollbacks which
are very important for data integrity.) Using a Flash front-end offers
various advantages -- not least of which is that unlike HTML, Flash
maintains state and does not have to refresh every time there is a data
exchange. Also, the current crop of MX server tools, which include Flash
Remoting, make Rapid Application Development (RAD) -- quickly scoping out,
prototyping and implementing -- data-driven applications a much easier task.
For one of my largest clients, K12.com, I was involved in creating a virtual
online school with a Flash front-end communicating with a Weblogic / Oracle
back-end and a custom Coldfusion CMS so I am very well versed in database
integration issues. (That interface currently serves out over a million
lesson SWFS (Flash movies) in a complete Kindergarten to grade 5 curriculum
and contains online scheduling and assessment modules.)
Please see www.BitsAndPixels.co.uk for more information on our services. I
look forward to speaking with you soon regarding this project. Please don't
hesitate to call should you have any questions.
All the best,

Hi all,
we might have a serious highend project coming up,
which would involve complex database
programming for buying/selling shares online.
Obviously security, reliability, and speed
would be of principal importance. Also the
ability to interface with serveral different
datasources.
We would need system architectural consultancy
on the best way of ensuring these goals, as well
as to the most suitable software and language to use
(is Oracle and JSP necessary, or would you feel
confident using simpler tools like PHP and MySQL?)
Also, we are looking to outsource the database
design and coding. If anyone has experience in building
large scale online shopping systems and good
understanding of security issues and multiple
data sources, please mail me directly.
Include URLs.
This project is in very early stages,
but the contract would hopefully be ongoing.
Hence only replies if you're not suffering from
commitment problems. (We're not talking
marriage but almost).
Regards
Andreas
