It's an article for a historical journal. Alien priories were priories owned
by non-English religious orders (usually French). This particular one had a
prior an one other chap (no monks at all) and they spent their time
collecting rents from property owned by the priory and sending the cash back
to France. This was in the late 14th and 15th centuries. There's more
footnote than text!
