Contact management and billing

Hi, I've 2 questions for you all
What do you all use to manage your client contacts? By that I mean
somthing that I can use to store Names/Address/Telephone
numbers/important details and then on top of that, run a diary of any
contact with the client, i.e. "rang Bob thurs 12th, no work needed this
month, call back in 4 weeks, he has a promotion and needs to send out an
html email", something like index cards I guess. BTW I have already
searched on google, I'm asking for recomendations, not a list of tools.
Do you all use whizzy solutions for invoicing/quoting? i.e. Quickbooks,
or just use a spreadsheet?
