I think you've proably hit the nail on the head here.
Though I'd have gone for the word craft - sounds nicer - especially when it
comes to the design side of things.

Mmmm. Perhaps part of the reason for al this is that most of the IT
"professions" aren't professions at all, but trades. So an apprenticeship,
official or otherwise, is more appropriate--and that's what most people get.
And HTML is just so very similar to using Wordstar or PC Write al those
years ago...
