RE: FN-FORUM Beware of scam artists bearing invoices...

If you do any amount of advertising you are bound to get a lot of this sort
of scam. It should only be an annoyance to a small company with tight
budgets, because you know what you have or haven't said. I once caught a
slightly different credit card scam because I followed up my doubts straight
away. The scammers are really aimming at taking advantage of larger
companies with a turnover of staff who either don't have the time or can't
really be bothered to check things out.
I always found that if someone phoned me with an offer for cheap ads etc. it
was best to turn it down. It was always better to have a planned approach to
advertising, so you are in control of your budgets, message etc. Only if I
knew the people I was dealing with, and I was already running a campaign
with them, would I consider the offer.
If you find that someone is that persistant they won't go away, I used to
tell my marketing people to say "We are sorry but all our advertising budget
has been allocated for this year." Never failed. :)
My 2p
Stuart.

I got a similar call and they said they spoke to me earlier in the year
and i agreed to do an ad. I fell soft but got them to reduce the cost
to £100 but have been kicking myself ever since because I'm sure I never
agreed to it, i would have remembered.
This company is mph direct and are genuine but I'm sure it's a new
tactic to get money out of you - I won't do it again.
