RE: FN-FORUM auto search engine submission
date posted 2nd January 2003 18:55
Hi,
I've never had much luck with autosubmitters, I prefer to hand submit.
Altavista don't accept auto submissions at all, northernlight is a business
directory and no one uses it and that leaves you with Excite (which uses the
FAST database), Lycos (which uses the FAST database) and HotBot (part of
Lycos) and Google which admit to ignoring submissions, they rely on
googlebot spidering your site from external links.
My advice would be to hand submit to Fast/alltheweb.com
http://www.alltheweb.com/add_url.php
and to altavista and to get some links to your site from external sites like
dmoz.org

Subject: FN-FORUM auto search engine submission
Think this may have been raised here before, but wondering how successful
automatic search engine submission is using software?
Our hosting provider offers a program that apparently submits to Altavista,
Altavista UK, Infoseek, Google, Excite, Lycos, NorthernLight and HotBot and
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that some search engines don't like
people using autosubmitters and won't be keen on listing your site if you
use one.
Is that complete bollocks or should I heed the advice?
Cheers
Elizabeth
