Pretty much any 10/100 NIC will be fine. If you're intending to share
the connection you know you'll need either 1 machine with two NICs to
act as a router, or a suitable broadband router to sit between the
cable modem and the hub/switch?
Netgear do a neat little combined NAT router and 4 port switch for
about 36/40 quid which is great for this.
For the laptops it depends on exactly what you want, but any of the
standard cards should be fine. If it's a NIC and it works it'll work
with broadband. If you want to go posh, I have a Xircom Realport
10/100 NIC & fax-modem card sitting here idle: brand new, bought for a
project that never needed it (although it's PC-Card not PCMCIA). They
retail at around £130, or used to, but I'd be happy to let it go for
much less than that just to get rid of it.
