RE: FN-FORUM: Laptops...

I've used Dell and AJP laptops and notebooks, and been very happy with the
quality of both. Acer and Hi-Grade come out pretty well in reviews too. You
ought to be able to find something suitable from one of these - my own
preference at the moment would probably be AJP, but it's a personal taste
thing a lot of the time.
As for second-hand, I would have to say it's like buying a second-hand crash
helmet - you don't know if they've dropped it, and you certainly don;t want
it falling apart at some crucial moment when you most need it.

I've just got around to reading this thread and while I've been considering
a Vaio the comments on Sony support (or lack of) are putting me off.
Do any of the other laptop manufacturers make machines that are as light to
carry as the Vaio? I don't need a development machine and would probably
leave graphics work to my desktop, but I need something lightweight,
reliable, with a good quality screen that either comes with loads of memory
or that I can put extra in.
Is a Vaio my only choice?
I was also recently advised that under no circumstances should I go for a
secnd-hand laptop. Would others agree with this?
Cheers
