I think I touched it many, many years ago... Yeah, just to agree with
Paul, if you check out current and back issues of various publications
(Internet Magazine comes to mind) you should be able to get full/trial
versions of graphics apps such as Xara or Paint Shop Pro for the cost of
the magazine. Granted the full versions will be older, 'out-dated'
releases but they'll serve as a starting point and will probably satisfy
your graphic requirements.

Haven't used it for a few years, but have heard good reports. I think
for
'non designers' it is a lot more approachable than Photoshop or
Fireworks -
you should find a previous version on a magazine cover disk for free, if
you
want to 'try before you buy'...
