Since you are taking components our biggest enemy will be static
electricity.
make sure that all components are packaged inside a faraday cage type
shielding bag - make sure you have no insulating material -paper, card,
bubble wrap, polystyrene etc in contact with any of the components.
(e.g. inside the bag!)
3M make the best (IMHO) static protection systems.

http://tinyurl.com/ef8s for bags - read the info pdf's if you don't
believe me!
NB - (from experience of implementing a static prevention system -
before and after failure stats) damage from static will most likely
cause intermittent failures, rather than complete failure, so even if
you think you have no damage, you might have slight and therefore
intermittent failure.
good luck.
P.S assembled laptops are less prone to static damage because there are
prevention measures taken in design of cases etc.
