Well, I wasn't going to get into listing exactly why I think it sucks,
but since you've started... ;-)
- Slow. I mean really, really slow. "Did you write this in Java?" slow.
- *Seriously* resource-hungry. Let's have a look at what it's doing on
my machine atm (no documents open, used for a day or so):
Image Name | Mem Usage | VM Size | Handles | Threads | GDI Objects
Dreamweaver.exe 9,404 K 46,488 K 56,305 7 673
- Doesn't play well with others. If I let it monitor local files for
changes (so that the link cache doesn't break), it monitors the *whole*
*drive*. That's OK if you're not doing much, but I can't compile
anything - it takes too long.
DWMX doesn't like my TV card either. DWMX: "Something else wants to talk
to the video card? How dare it! Surely I'm the only application you want
to use right now". Bah.
- Doesn't understand . Pathetic. Just pathetic.
- Can't tell the time. I have most of my sites set to upload the page
when I save it. Everything's on a 100mbit Ethernet, standard shared
drives, etc. Most of the time DWMX will tell me that the file on the
remote server is newer than the local one, and would I like to overwrite
it? Well, the file isn't newer - I just saved it. Can you turn off the
stupid box? No. Is this a known bug? Yes. Was it reported over 3 months
ago? Yes. Is there a patch? No. Again, pathetic.
- Still can't really do FTP. DW4's FTP support was so badly broken
they just should have left it out completely. It's had a bit of a
face-lift in DWMX, but it still isn't great.
- Sometimes throws away your site list. You don't mind putting them
all back in, do you? Of course you've got those 20 sets of login details
handy!
I could go on, but I think that's enough for now :-)
> But you're right, what's the real alternative? FrontPage (Ha Ha Ha Ha...)
Don't, just don't....
