FN-FORUM: Curry House with a Difference (OT)
date posted 4th August 2003 16:59
Something for the Hertfordshire folk - a little snippet from the
startbusiness newsletter just received:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The owner of a chain of curry restaurants is to open his latest venture =
in
an old Boeing 747 jet. Salik Miah, who owns around 40 restaurants, =
wanted a
special venue to put his Rajmoni chain on the map. So he bought a
decommissioned British Airways Boeing 747, which last flew in 1983. He =
plans
to open it for business next month on a two-acre plot in Potters Bar,
Hertfordshire. Designer Adnan Mallick has spent six months converting =
the
plane. "Mr Miah wanted somewhere really special as a flagship, and the =
jet
is ideal. We had to get aircraft engineers in to remove all the seats =
and
make it safe first. But now we have about 480 seats on the lower level =
and a
VIP suite on the upper level. There are two kitchens on board - one at =
the
front of the plane and another at the back - and a fully licensed bar =
area.
But we left the old toilets operational as part of the experience of =
eating
on a plane."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Anyone been on the disused train restaurant (can't remember the name) =
near
Birmingham? Had a team dinner there during one of the SoftWorld =
exhibitions.
When we arrived, we thought it was going to be dire, but it turned out =
to be
tremendous fun. =20
