Oh Jonathan, you will always get prices form overseas developers, they are
registered for projects and can do the work cheaply. You will always get the
die-hards who tell you what they think of your idea and you will always get
a wide range of prices, in our experience a project request comes up with
about 250 replies of which five are any good and only two will be good
enough (really)
I thought your request was a bit vague - it seemed a lot of effort to quote
for something which might or might not happen - so we didn't because we
like to be thorough and professional when we quote. I also wondered if you
were promoting somewhere for people to put their dodgy pics...
You might also like to think that there are not many people who would do a
job which could, if done very well put them out of work. They might be
interested with a rolling commission on your turnover.
As someone else pointed out is has been done before. Not many developers
would be involved with developing a site selling templated sites for a
tenner when it would cost most if us about a tenner and a few hours work to
set up such a site for themself anyway.
My feeling is that there is always room for competition, that most templated
'just put your text here' sites look awful and if you think it's a good
idea, do it and I hope it goes well.
