No offence BUT, I would say DO NOT make your content expand, especially =
for
a news/portal sites. The reasons are, 1. you have control of the flow of
text and images on the page. 2. the reason news papers are in columns =
is so
people can scan read down the page, if the text is to long that is very
hard/impossible to do. 3. Read this

like the look of the site - nice and busy!

the only thing that's wierd for me is the way it doesn't resize when i=20
make my window larger. i would like to see the central column on a=20
percentage rather than fixed width, so that i can see more of the news=20
text as the window expands. i think this is essential for a news site.=20
it looks a bit weird how the central column is so long off the bottom =

of the screen - all that white space is too much...

also it makes the calendar part look really odd on the homepage. it=20
looks like it's just floating around there... maybe you can redesign=20
this section to fit into one of the side panels, in a nice box with a=20
1px rule or something. this would help your problem of the sidebars=20
ending before the central content, and also make the calendar visible=20
at all times, making someone more likely to use it.
