A few years ago I was hopping between offices in the UK and Canada on a
regular basis, so I signed up with a company where ou pre-payed for calls.
You had to dial their number, and then enter a PIN, and then dial the long
distance number. The costs were down to about 3-4p per minute. I'm afraid
I can't remember the company name though. D'oh!
The only other thing I remember was that the international tariffs from
Orange were considerably better than those from BT.
