How is your router getting "un the way"? Under normal circumstances
you'd have all of your local machines on the same address range/subnet
on a local LAN, and your switch and router would take care of keeping
local traffic local and external traffic scurrying off to the outside.
Unless you've got a very non-standard setup/requirement it sounds like
you've got something misconfigured, TBH.
