I've been using it for about a month and a half now. It takes a lot of
time and effort to get somewhere with it unless you provide a very obscure
product/service that people will think to look for on there.
I've landed one great little project through it which will see the light of
day in a few weeks time. Someone had posted a request and a good brief in
their weblog which I happened to see on the homepage and I responded, but
if I hadn't been checking the site regularly that date then I would have
missed it.
Some people have found my profile and have mentioned potential projects
that I'm following up on as well.
It seems that to get the full benefit from it you need to be actively
participating in clubs, networking events, posting weblogs and articles
etc. I noticed that while my work ramped up with this project and doing my
other bits and pieces, I've not posted a lot on the site nor have I been on
it much and my page hits per day has dropped.
However, through the one project I've got so far, my client has already
said he's pleased with my work and will refer me to his friends, and I've
met the guy who's hosting the site (and happens to be a programmer) who is
linking me up with other people.
Networking is much better done in person, but ecademy does give a platform
for finding people and events to go along to where your skills might be
relevant.
