Exactly. Now, looking at it, it means 10% of the 18% but I'd read the
words so many times before and then it had not even occurred that that
might be the case. I always thought it meant I'd get it at 8%.
I've been doing some good reading at http://www.asa.org.uk and
http://www.tradingstandards.net. The ASA site is making me think that
they are infact providing misleading information. Although I can't find
anything specifically to do with percentages, the ASA states that
advertising should not be misleading and they have various points about
financial offers always having to state clearly interest rates etc. which
could mean they have regulations for commissions and discounts.
I've sent the company a friendly note asking if they've checked with the
ASA to ensure that their advertising is in line with the
standards. Waiting to see what they say...
Ross, you'd be happy to know that the ASA site states :
"The ASA's remit covers advertisements in paid-for space online, including
banner and pop-up ads, sales promotions anywhere online and commercial
e-mails. It does not cover general product information on home pages."
